trouble in paradise
Ok. I know a lot of people are flipping out. But here’s what I thought about the scene before this and this one.
Carmilla Karnstein. We learned so much about her in these two scenes. Well. Sort of. I mean
we learned about her through Mattie’s lens. Which is so different to observing her through Laura’s videos. Which I think in turn
taught us a lot about Carmilla. Mattie wants to sit there and say that
Carmilla you do this, Carmilla you do that. But in all honesty she
doesn’t know the Carmilla that we know and I’m really hoping that Carm
can stick to her guns and not fall into old patterns.
Me and wrackwonder were discussing this and she raised an interesting point in that Carmilla was the most loved of Maman’s kids, but arguably the most abused. I would concur, she was def the most abused and the most loved. Silas was essentially a prison to Carmilla. A prison she though she would escape by killing her mother. Yet she’s still trapped there. Laura by her side or not, she’s not in a good place right now.
What makes Laura different from all the others she’s been infatuated with? Laura is different because she is so stubbornly of her own mind. I can bet you dollars to donuts all the others that Carmilla was infatuated with were essentially in Carmilla’s thrall and she in theirs. The vast majority probably didn’t know she was a vampire either. Laura sees the whole of her and still wants to be with her. That’s the difference if you ask me. What’s gonna blow Hollstein apart is if Carmilla gives in to Mattie’s chiseling and her nagging insecurity. Similarly if Laura can’t move past feeling like a child all the time. Another bomb set by Mattie I may add. Mattie is just gonna chip, chip, chip away. I wonder how many of Carm’s other relationships she had a hand in fucking up. Plus Maman fucked up her relationship with Ell, so y'know. Wtf is up with these broads? Why is everyone so interested in having posession of Carmilla, romantically or not.
But at least Laura KNOWS that’s what’s going on to a certain extent. Ok, so she chose not to deal with it, and they need to talk to each other. But they won’t. Because it’s easier to focus on the task at hand and hope everything is ok. They’ll fight, they’ll break up, but that’s just good television. Ultimately they’ll be ok.
Know what’s terrifying me? Carmilla’s body language in Tuesday’s preview. Holy shit is that some Season 1 Karnstein. Carmilla is depressed again. She feels trapped again. The leather pants are back again.
Come back loud pants Karnstein, I miss you already.
